Being part of something bigger

Had the pleasure of interviewing the Brisbane Bronco’s Legends (Wally Lewis, Gorden Tallis, Allan Langer, Tonie Caroll, Gene Miles, Steven Renouf, Mick Hancock, Kerrod Walters, Michael Deveres) at the Yellow Socks challenge against the Austalian Softball Legends today.  What a delight that all these people voluteered their time for a great cause (junior softball development and Play for a Cure).

This event was started by Graham McColm and Gorden Tallis in 2010 after the death of Graham’s wife, Deborah and Gorden’s sister, Jannita.  They died inside a week of each other – both from cancer – in the same hospital ward.  Graham had been a kicking coach with the Broncos for years &  so the Bronco’s got behind the idea of remembering these wonderful ladies and generating funds for causes that were close to their hearts.

It is just brilliant to be involved in community events like this.  All the organisation done because people care and because things matter.  High profile people donating their time because they can and me having the priveledge and pleasure of being involved and supporting it all.  That’s when you know you are alive and that things matter…you matter and other people matter.

Thanks to all that made it possible (including Leigh Martyn and Kellie Gross) and love to Graham and Gorden Tallis.  A special thought for Jannita’s daughter, Tillie, who did a great job pitching the entire game and taking it to the Australian softballers.

Lily’s lovely comments

I was doing the roving microphone interviewing the Brisbane Broncos legends and the Australian Softball Legends at the Yellow Socks game today.  My daughter asked me if she could come.  I said that she had dancing so she wouldn’t be able to come.  She replied “Well, Mum….I don’t really want to watch the game – that’s boring.  I just like it when you speak.”

It’s nice to be a legend in my own family. (:

Bow River

Well, it happened again!  Driving home with the radio on MMM and on comes Cold Chisel’s “Bow River”….OMG….how good is that song?!  I know I’ve heard it since I was at high school, but I was absolutely IN THE MOOD to crank it up.  My favourite part was when the skin heads in the car next to me looked at over with a look which was a mixture of disapproval and intrigue…..then, of course, because I was having so much fun,  they had to crack a smile.

Good one Cold Chisel.

iphone

My computer died yesterday – thank goodness for my thrifty iphone – I am still able to receive my emails & stay in contact with people – what a brilliant, useful and relatively easy to use resource!

An apple a day keeps my insanity at bay.

The Rainbow Lorikeet

On my morning walk I saw a Rainbow Lorikeet sitting low down in a tree.  I stopped to take a closer look and remembered what beautiful birds they are – just incredible that nature comes up with such beauty.  Australia is just full of such gorgeous creatures – well, there’s the rainbow lorikeet, and me…..and then you …… that’s three without even trying.

I wonder what beauty is in your “back yard”?

Love, love, love……..

Chris at the Computer Shop

Just wanted to thank Chris at the computer shop at the top of the hill today.  My compter was being less than cooperative and he managed to have his way with it and breath some more life back into it.

Thanks Chris…the HP lives another day!

Mark and his ability to do a bun

My daughter indulges in bun sports – that is physical activity that requires the hair to be placed in a circular motion and restrained from the face with a hair net.  This weekend I was away and so it was up to my daughter’s father to put her hair up in a bun for dancing.  Well, I am impressed and mildly excited that this is a new breakthrough in the family.  Lily was happy, Mark was happy….and I sure was relieved.

So congratulations Mark (Daddy) for a job well done!
