Oprah

Oprah

I don’t know how long I have watched her and loved her – I just know it’s been great.  I love Oprah and her spirit.  I love how she totally has exposed who she is and continues to be so honest with the world about her inner most thoughts.  What courage that takes.  What responsibility she has with all her resources.  She uses them so well.  There is not too many people in the world that could be entrusted with what she has and put it to such good use.  I love people who are an inspiration by just being themselves.  That is truly inspirational.  That’s what I am looking for in myself – to be an inspiration to me and my family and my community.  I know it starts at a micro level – at the level of the self.  Many days I am successful, some days not as successful.  I know I have in my heart the intention though to love ….. to love myself, my family and others I meet.

It’s people like Oprah Winfrey that inspire me to want to give more and be more.  She has provided a platform to bring other inspirational people into the public arena and that makes an enormous positive difference.

Thank goodness for the likes of Oprah who make life meaningful.  Great meaning paves the way for great possibility and opportunity.  I love that Oprah opens my mind up to what is possible….to have me think “What is possible for me?”.  I’m not sure what the second half of my life will bring.  I just feel like I want to keep expanding and exploring, being inspired by others – famous billionaires like Oprah and generous, beautiful souls like the cleaner I met at a recent business event who bought me a drink because he was just a lovely man who wanted to give me something.  Well, I received that drink with great appreciation, just like I receive love and generosity from a beautiful black media personality I have never met.

Click free

Love and huge bundles of appreciation to the inventors of “Click Free” – my new external hard drive – all you do is plug it in and it backs up everything, including Outlook, pictures & music, automatically.  It automatically knows what files are new and which ones have been adjusted so you don’t have to have other slow, inefficient systems to figure out what to back up.  It’s brilliant!

My HP computer died on the weekend.  I bought my new computer this morning & all I had to do was to plug my “Click Free” in and press restore, and it restored ALL MY SETTINGS!!!! OMG – how brilliant was that!  So, if you are a small business owner or just want an efficient, effective back up system, Click Free might be a great option.  It saves me sooooooo much time.

Funtastic Flip camera

If you haven’t heard of a flip camera yet, you should.  It is the niftiest little video camera which I have fallen in love with since receiving it as a beautiful and generous gift from the gorgeous Ben Harvey in September last year.

I carry this little baby around in my bag.  It has a little USB for easy download straight onto my computer.  I use it to film my You Tube clips for me and Lily & videos for my upcoming website.  It is so unbelievably easy to use and so compact and with a great quality result.  If you are thinking of getting one, they are really affordable now and just amazing.  You can still pop them on a tripod if you want to as well!

So, flip your lid and get your Flip camera today!!

Additional Note to this Post:

Sadly, so very sadly, my flip camera had died and they no longer are being made.  Oh, the humanity!

Barbra Streisand

Babs Babs

I know Barbra Streisand is known more for her singing than her acting….as much as I love her as a singer, I just love her as an actor.  I love her interesting, beautiful look.  I love her passion.  I love her blue eyes and her long nails and full lips. “The Way We Were” (go Robert), “What’s Up Doc” (Go Ryan), “Funny Girl”, “Hello Dolly”, “The Prince of Tides”, “The Main Event” (Go Ryan again), “A Star is Born” and more recently “Meet the Fockers”…….when she made a movie, you usually knew about it and it just had something about it…..

What’s not to love about Babs…..really!?!

Scooby Dooby Doo….where are you?

Scooby

Mystery solved.  He’s at our place!

My 7 year old daughter LOVES Scooby Doo!  She is obssessed really….everything stops and Scooby Doo must be watched.  It’s gorgeous because she laughs huge belly laughs and it is totally contagious.  Her favourite game on her DS is Scooby Doo.  I remember how much I used to love Scooby when I was little.  I still love him!

Scooby Doo is a bit like “Get Smart” – timeless. Even though Shaggy is stuck in the 70s, strangely he seems relevant today.

We watched the movie “Scooby Doo 3” AGAIN tonight, which was filmed in Australia (go Andrew Conder!).  Brilliant fun and we got to see Todd from Neighbours (I think that’s his name!).  I bought Lily another Scooby Doo DVD for Christmas and have ordered some special Scooby Doo treats for her birthday in April – can’t wait to see her face.

Anyway…I’m off to get a Scooby snack (no, not that sort – haven’t had them for years….).

Scooby Dooby Doo!

Amazing Puppets

I think puppets are cool.  During my teaching degree, I did a puppetry course where we made our puppets and put on a show for the kids at the Royal Brisbane Children’s Hospital School.  It was awesome fun creating it and such a treat to present it to the kids.

I love that puppets come in different sizes.  Years ago, when I was in Vermont, I went to this event (can’t remember the name of it) and the Bread and Puppet Theatre was there – enormous puppets and quite a spectacle.  I loved them.

Then there are the Muppets – everyone’s favourite type of puppets!  Jim Henson was a genious and the characters he created are timeless.  I still love the two old blokes in the balcony and Fozzy Bear et el…..

I took my love of puppets my classroom as a teacher.  I regularly had my classes make puppets and create performances with them.  We did all types – shadow puppets, rod puppets and hand puppets.  One of my favourite times was when my grade 4 class made Banraku puppets and did we did our own special presentation of “Sadaku and the Thousand Paper Cranes”.  They were brilliant.  It was actually really powerful theatre.

Something cool happens when you have a puppet.  If you haven’t taken the opportunity to have a play with one, I suggest you rectify it.  It’s sure to put a smile on your dial.

Bananas

Bananas – yum.  A nutrition packed, tasty fruit that have recently become affordble for the middle income earner. Sunny yellow in colour and in their own convenient, biodegradable, hygenic, disposable cover they are a must for a quick, handy snack for all ages.  Bananas – I’m a big fan – they have my vote.

Lily

I walked down to the car this morning to see a hand crafted Valentine’s Day Card to Lily’s dad and me behind the windscreen wiper…..it was beautiful….all wrapped up with a bow and saying “Happy Valentines Day” and that she loves us……it was such a beautiful surprise.  She had already gone off to school and it made me cry reading it.  She is such a thoughtful little girl with a beautiful heart.  (:

Mosquito Coils

Don’t know if you have noticed, but as a result of the heavy recent rainfall, there seems to have been a rapid growth in the number of big, fat mozzies lookin’ for blood.  Many of them could have found an endless feeding ground in my body.  Fortunately, in the 1890s, Japanese business man, Eiichiro Ueyama invented the mosquito coil.  So, while I sit and spasmodically choke on the fumes which ward off the tiny terrors, i thank Eiichiro as I remain bite free.  Sure, there are other less invasive alternatives, but I am yet to find any method as reliable as the trusty mosquito coil.

Thanks Eiichiro!

Afternoon storms in Brisbane

It was a true February day in Brisbane today – steamy, hot with an afternoon storm.  There is nothing quite like feeling the heat and instantly being cooled down by the rain and breeze.  It is truly glorious.

Love ya Brisbane.
