I want to thank Rob today for making my day. I don’t know who he is, just that he shops at the same supermarket I do.
I was standing in the juice isle, contemplating whether to buy the tropical or apple and mango juice, when this man walked up to me and said, “Hi, I’m Rob”. (he shook my hand). “I just have to tell you that you’re gorgeous”. Now, this was all said with a dead serious face, so I’m assuming it wasn’t done as a dare.
Maybe, I thought, to myself, I should pop a frock and a bit of lippy on more often…..I had just come from a friends party so had made a little effort to run my fingers through my hair so it wasn’t its usual matted mess, and actually had a pair of girly type shoes on – a much diffferent look than what Rob may have found me wearing typically on a Saturday arvo – a pair of daggy track pants or shorts and smelly t-shirt probably slipped on earlier in the day when I did my exercise ….. hmmmm…. nice….and my hair would have normally been thrown up in a knot on the top of my head…..but today, I must have put my best foot forward.
Well, I responded to Rob as he walked away “Thanks! You made my day” and I continued to examine the juices pleased that I had bothered to have a shower.
As I pondered juice choices, Rob popped back round into the isle….”I know this is a supermarket”, he said, “but is it ok if I ask for your number?”. Well, now I was feeling a bit special. Sure he could have been a stalker or serial killer, but it still massaged my ego quite considerably.
“Sorry Rob, I’m married”. Not strictly true of course, but I was not about to enter into a dialogue to explain the intricacies of my long term de facto relationship. “Well, he’s a lucky man”, he said as he brushed my arm with the back of his hand and walked away. “Who was I to argue?”, I thought to myself.
So, thanks Rob. You made me walk a little taller (I’m only 5 foot two after all) and smile an inner smile as I completed my shopping today. I may even shower and look in the mirror to brush my hair and put on a little make up before I leave the house next Saturday.
