I was just sittin’ here dashing away at the keyboard of my computer…..writing a workbook, flipping over to facebook, checking my emails, then, in between time, shooting off a text message on my phone and I just started to marvel at the wonders of technology.
Today, for example, I also used my GPS to get me over to Creastmead. Now, normally, maps and directions and such have not been my strong suit. But, it didn’t matter today! I whipped out my GPS, typed in the address of where I was off to, and started to drive and listen to the staccatto tones of “Aussie Karen”, the voice over lady (that’s her real business name I have been lead to believe – she’s a Queenslander and has a cracker of a story -read it here: http://www.thatslife.com.au/Article/Real-Life/Real-Life-Stories/Meet-Aussie-Karen-the-voice-in-your-GPS). Off I drover on freeways and streets I’d never known before, all without too much of a care as long as I paid attention to the lovely Karen. How amazing is that?! Not so many years ago, I would have to plan out my entire journey, do thorough research in my street directory, maybe even do a highlighting of the intended route – it may have taken me 15 minutes before I was semi-clear on which way to head. Well, not today folks….today I plugged Karen in and stepped on the accelerator and in next to no time was at my destination.
Then, later this arvo (that’s afternoon for you non-Australian readers), I road tester a provider for my webinar (might have to change that provider me thinks), sliced and diced many a business document, chatted to people on my phone, emailed song lyrics over to a friend, responded to multiple email/facebook messages – how could such efficient connection and activity have been achieved in the past! I sit here amazed at how much can be accomplished in such a short amount of time with the technology around us today.
So, it’s a double thumbs up to all those propeller headed, nerdy and not so nerdy scientist types (I can say that I believe since I go out with one) who, through their collective smarts, have made me more clever and effecient. Sure, it does my head in trying to learn it all and keep up with the changes, particularly when facebook get tricky and change about the way they do things, but it sure is helping the neurogensis process (the creation of new neurons which happens when we learn something new) which keeps my brain healthier. So, hip hip hoorah to techno buffs for asking the questions and pushing the boundaries, and for me and you for making it all profitable and workable by using it all. Aren’t we all very clever?!
