Happy Australia Day everyone! I hope you had a brilliant day with family and friends.
On a different note, I was thinking about teachers as I sat and sorted the white stones from the black today (don’t ask). So, here’s to all the brilliant teachers out there. I am not saying that because I used to be one either…..well…..ok…..there might be a slight conflict of interest there, however, I stand by the thought.
From my point of view, I remember how loving and kind my grade 3 teacher was, Miss Lyon I believe…..in high school I loved Mrs Ham for English – she had a quick wit and passion and was amazingly human. She introduced me to Shakespeare and made me want to know more and do better.
I loved phys ed teachers Rob Johnston (Robbo) and Ann Cooper at Corinda High. They made me want to be a phys ed teacher. That never happen – you needed a 990 TE score (the equivalent to the OP score) back then. 990 was the highest you could get. Phys Ed was a very popular tertiarty option, and I didn’t make the grade. I was destined to become a primary school teacher which was a great fit for me.
Now my daughter is at school. She is in year 3 and has had excellent teachers so far. This year seems set to be another great experience for her.
So, thanks to all those teachers who change the lives of their students for the better. It is a job that is getting harder and harder with greater administrative demands and a changing curriculum to keep up with. Great teachers still don’t get paid anything near their true value when you think they have our childrens’ ears for 5 or 6 hours every day.
Thanks to all those under paid, over achieving loving, successful teachers. You are appreciated and make an enormous difference everyday.
