Now, this is something I am CONSTANTLY thankful for……it is one of the best inventions on the face of the planet – along with my electric garage door which doesn’t directly effect me as much because I park in our carport….however…..thanks goes to the gate Gods and the collective brilliance of those who discovered electricity and directed into useful mechanisms like my electric gate!!!!
So, according to my reliable Google sources I owe thanks to Greek Philosopher Thales of Mileus who in 600 B.C. wrote about amber becoming charged by rubbing (describing static electricity). I also owe thanks to English scientist William Gilbert who in 1600 A.C. coined the term “electricity” from the Greek word for amber and wrote about the electrification of many substances. A bit shout out to German scientist and inventor, Otto von Guericke who in 1660 A.C. invented a machine that produced static electricity. Of course, good on ya American stateman and inventor, Ben Franklin for those experiments with static charges in the air in 1747 A.C. Also, in the same year, thumbs up to English physician and scientist, William Watson for his works on circuits and British scientist, Henry Cavendish for measuring the conductivity of different materials. Ben Franklin was again a champion in 1752 A.C. when he invented the lightening rod demonstrating lightning was electricity (don’t try this at home). And appreciation to Italian physician, Luigi Galvani who in 1786 A.C. demonstrated the electrical basis of nerve impulses when he made frog muscles twitch by jolting them with a spark from an electrostatic machine (crazy Italians! Gotta love ’em). And you beauty Michael Faraday, the English Chemist and Physist who in 1821 A.C came up with the electric motor and the reason my gate opens and shuts when I press a button on my remote whilst sitting in my car! I love you all, particularly when the rain is ripping down or my legs hurt from a pump class after not doing anything for weeks (see previous post).
Also, just wanted to acknowledge that the creation of my electric gate was a truly global effort if you look at the contributors from history, and not to mention the fact that Brad had to come all the way out from Darra to install it years ago…….and brilliant stuff whoever fabricated the colourbond etc, etc, etc……………all for me!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to you all – I really appreciate you everyday!
Would love to hear from anyone else who loves their electric gate/garage door……how good are they!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!!!
