Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree

Watched the Aussie flick “Red Dog” with my daughter today (strange – a 7 year olds favourite movie – move over “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “The Smurfs”- go the Aussie film industry!).  After wiping away the tears, it got me thinking about all things Australian and about how bloody beautiful this country is.  It got me thinking about what I have seen of Australia and what I haven’t seen.  I filled out a “top 100 places in the world to visit” survey today…..had visited 30 out of the 100, yet hadn’t gone to Illuru! “What the!?” I heard the voice of Rove echo……am now talking to the family about rectifying all that.   I had a brilliant coaching client from Alice Springs this year – she was amazing and used to speak about the magic of the outback and I think that sparked something in me – gonna listen to myself on that one and start planning for the trip….

So…..sitting in my back yard as the sun went down, feeling particularly Aussie today, and out they came in chorus – those glorious, joyful, and dare I say gay (as a cage full of birds?……thanks Lawrie Fabian for that one)…..the kookaburras…..how good are they folks?

They were having a good old cackle, shouting….”Stephanie….get over yourself…..don’t worry be happy!”   So, what could I do but agree.  They just make you smile.  So, since I live in Queensland, raise your pineapple juice or banana smoothie in a joyous toast to the kookaburra.  They really are part of the soul of Australia and why I love living here.
